So, with week 1 over, I have survived my first week of being healthy, don’t get me wrong though I have certainly not deprived myself and have had the odd treat and not so healthy meal – however my view is that this is a long-term lifestyle change and not just a temporary weight loss solution or ‘7-day shred’ as some people call it.
I have tried my best to ensure that my body gets all of the nutrients that it needs to function correctly without depriving it of essential carbohydrates that it needs for energy – I have tried these Keto type diets which aim to increase fats and decrease carbs in your body to apparently burn calories quicker! This method obviously works for some people but I know my body now, I am 32 years old and have dieted for most of my life, I know what my body responds to and focusing on only 1 thing does not work …. Especially when my mind fails and tells me that its not worth it and I need carbs, I end up binge eating and then pile on the weight I’ve just lost PLUS more and end up even bigger!
I therefore decided that I was going to have a relaxed daily routine that is open to change depending on the daily situation, here it is:
08:00 – 09:00am = BREAKFAST smoothie (homemade with fruit, juice and hemp protein/spirulina powder)
11:30 – 12:30pm = 1stLUNCH small balanced meal of carbs, fats and protein
14:30 – 15:30pm = 2ndLUNCH small balanced meal of carbs, fats and protein (different from 1st lunch)
15:30 – 18:30pm = DINNER balanced home cooked family meal including vegetables
20:00 – 20:30pm = SUPPER smoothie (homemade with milk, super green powder and seeds/nuts)
My aim with my plan is to not feel the need to snack throughout the day as I know my downfall is eating easy and convenient foods that offer a quick fix but do not fill you and offer little or no nutritional value e.g. crisps, chocolate biscuits, fizzy drinks. I am also drinking at least 3 litres of water throughout the day including herbal teas such as Nettle with Peppermint and Camomile with Spearmint – these are helping keep my sweet cravings at bay.
I am also using a traditional book based tracking system to move away from the digital ago and MyFitnessPal – let’s see how long this lasts 🙈
As well as the above I am sipping BCAAs on training days to help keep my muscles nourished as I do not want my body to eat into my muscle, I want it to eat at the masses of fat stored around my problem areas!
Muscle Vs Fat!< img src=”http://yogapupz.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/img_2292-300×300.jpg” class=”alignnone size-medium wp-image-1609″ height=”300″ alt=”fat vs muscle” width=”300″><< the topic of muscle and fat in the body, I stepped on the scales today and in the first week of my plan I have only lost 2Ib in weight – now to some that may not be much and for others it may be a lot! For me, I know that this is okay! Yes, it was the first week of my plan so I should have, in theory, dropped more weight in water – however I have not crash dieted, I have kept my body nourished and treat it with the respect that it deserves! 🧘♀️ I have also been building muscle density in the gym as I lift weights with my husband at least 4 times per week! And as everybody knows muscle weighs more than fat in your body, so the higher your muscle density the heavier you are going to be! This is why the scales are a good starting point for my journey but they do not provide me with the full picture! I will be measuring my progress on the following things:
- How I feel every day I wake up
- The amount of energy I have everyday 😴
- How tight/lose my clothes feel 👗
- How fit I feel during cardio sessions 🏃🏻♀️
- How strong I feel during my weight lifting sessions 💪🏻
- How balanced I feel in my yoga sessions 🧘♀️
And the most important of all:
- How happy I feel in my own skin!
So, this journey started with me wanted to transform myself from an Office Slob to a Fit and Healthy Yogi! Admittedly, life has gotten in the way a little this week and I have struggled to attend Yoga classes and I haven’t been as often as I would have liked – however I have been to a Yoga Flow classes at David Lloyds gym in Sunderland as well as a Mediation and Aums workshop at Blooming Bamboo Wellness Centre in Seaham, both of which showed me that I have a long way to go in my journey but that is exactly what Yoga is! It is not to be practised to strive for perfection, it is simply a personal journey in order to find balance and inner peace with yourself as well as taking care of your body and giving it the loving it deserves.
Now, I mention that I attended a workshop – this was definitely a new experience for me! In this workshop we had to sit in a circle and Aum 108 times as a group, before sitting in silence for 108 breathes of meditation! At first the idea scared the hell out of me as I am a mind wanderer – I really struggle to bring my focus back into my breathing as everything and anything distracts me!
However, as I sat there with 4 other amazing ladies I felt like I was where I was supposed to be at that very moment in time – it felt normal and natural to hit there Auming in tune to the other women! I could feel my Aums getting louder and clearer with every breath, I could feel my chest opening wider and the oxygen flowing through my lungs – I wasn’t distracted, I was completely engrossed in my Aums! We did this for approximately 20 minutes and the time absolutely flew over! And as we sat there in silence afterwards I could feel my body sitting strongly and my breathing becoming controlled as my mind wandered down into the depths of colours and swirls!
What was happening to me? Was this normal?
Of course, my eyes were closed yet I could see a faint swirl of pink, purple and white clear as day in front of me – having researched these colours after the session I found out what they mean in terms of Meditation and Aura, I am aware that these colours were faint and not fully focuses but they were there and I believe that at least some of the following could be true:
- PINK: In meditation or dreams represents self-love, also resurrection. The colour of flesh, of sensuality and emotion, romantic love, and supportive love.
- In Aura, represents a person in-love with another or in-love with one’s created environment.
- PURPLE:Purple or indigo in meditation signals some kind of psychic power or ability or some kind of psychic force.
- In the aura shows a very intuitive person, a person with prepackaged abilities that come from before birth to be used physically in this incarnation. These people tend to be square pegs as far as society and fitting in is concerned.
- WHITE: In meditation white represents truth of the highest order. Enlightenment. Energy in its most pure form. Divinity.
- A white layer in the aura or a layer with white streaks indicates a person following the will of God and being directed by it.
Now, anyone who knows me will know that I am not religious – I follow no god and believe that everyone decides their own fate via there own actions, however the way I felt during this 10-15 minutes of meditation was incredible as I left feeling empowered and uplifted for the rest of the day. I felt refreshed and ready to take on the world!!
I have therefore just loaded a morning meditation skill onto our Amazon Echo so that I can ask Alexa at any point to offer me some guided relaxation and mindfulness – you should have seen my 6 year old son’s face the first time I played it ….. my aim now is to get him to partake in a 5-minute meditation with me a couple of times per week as he is already an avid fan of yoga after attending some of my kid’s yoga sessions with YogaPupz! Let’s see how this one turns out hehe!
This week sees the start of my Detox Yoga course every Sunday afternoon at The Yoga Project in Castletown, Sunderland – I am very excited to start this as I will ensure I give myself that time every week and I know I will benefit from the routine! There are still a couple of spaces left for the 7:30pm detox course if you feel like this is for you.
I have also just booked our Honeymoon to Marrakesh at the end of January so I will be trying that little bit harder to lose some excess pounds but my main goal is to feel happy in my current skin so that I am confident not to worry what anyone else thinks of me!
As well as Yoga I am going to make the effort to try the following in the coming weeks:
- Body balance class
- Pilates class
- Meditation / Gong workshop
- Aerial yoga class

PS. My husband and I booked a twilight session at Seaham Hall last night and I found that the atmosphere and relaxation really helped with stress and stops my mind worrying about things that I have no control over in life! If you have never been I highly recommend you pay a visit – it is an absolute steal at £49.50 for 5 hours in the spa and a 2 course meal in the Ozone!
